Free guide for families and executors
The family home after a bereavement
If someone close to you has died and left a house, it can feel like too much to deal with at once. This free, plain-English guide is about the house itself, for families and executors in England. It is gentle and practical, and it does not ask you to decide anything today.
- What needs attention first, and what can be taken step by step
- Who does what, and what to ask the estate's solicitor and the insurer
- Keep, let or sell: the questions to ask first, with no pressure

Who we are
Mark Beaumont has worked in property since 1986, including dealing with properties after a death throughout that time. Our business has been trading since 1999. We are a small independent family firm. We explain every offer and our reasons, and we take the time it needs. We sell and let property, so we have an interest in what you decide to do with a house. Ask the estate's solicitor and an accountant for advice that does not depend on us.
General information for homes in England only, correct as at 27 October 2026. It is not legal advice or tax advice and cannot cover your own circumstances. The law is still changing, so check the official pages or take advice before you act. We are an estate and letting agent, not a law firm. Prepared by Mark Beaumont Estate Agents.
